What are the risk factors?

Age, family history, presence of polyps, and diet are some of the factors that can put you at higher risk for a colorectal cancer diagnosis.

Title: What are the risk factors?

You may be at higher risk for developing colorectal cancer if you:

  • have intestinal polyps,
  • are older than 50,
  • have a relative who had colorectal cancer before age 60
  • or have two or more relatives who had colorectal cancer at any age

Additionally you may be at higher risk if you:

  • eat a high-fat diet
  • don’t exercise regularly
  • or are very overweight

Smoking and a history of alcoholism are also considered risk factors.
