Leslie discusses the importance of support from your doctors, nurses, family, and
friends during all stages of the colorectal cancer journey.
Title: The importance of support
“It was real interesting for me, being in the medical profession. You know working
with people every day that… that deal with healthcare. Um, I found out that I had
a lot of friends that I really didn’t know about, which is great. Most people stepped
… stepped up to the plate and tried to do something, whether it was send cards.
And I mean, I still have my whole box of cards that people sent me when I was sick.
Um, and… and I think you’re right. I think people don’t really know what to say.
That I think that the… if they knew how good it was for them to just act normal
and not make you rehash everything about the treatment, you know, just treat you
like they always did…and yeah sometimes you know, you might get 20 phone calls a
day, that you’re not going to answer back. You know, that’s ok, you know, you kind
of have to do what’s right for you. But it feels so good to know those people are
out there. It just feels so good.”
